Life With A Limp: Discovering God’s Purpose In Your Pain is a non-fiction book by David E. Stevens, sharing practical experiences and expounding on various conflicting questions which have been asked time and time again by different individuals.
Is God really all-knowing and all-powerful? Is he truly good? If he is, why do we experience pain, evil, and suffering? Why are bad things happening to good people? Why would the innocent suffer? From the point of personal grief and discovery, the author carefully takes us on a journey through these frequently asked questions. Using the Bible as a starting point, he presents answers and consolation to the individual asking these questions. As a Christian just losing his firstborn son in a faraway land, David E. Stevens is placed in a position to reflect on the suffering, pain, and evil in this world and God's position about this. This book offers hope to grieving and depressed souls, pointing them towards a better future.
I think this book is an outstanding one for a few reasons. First, the author writes this book from a place of personal experience and grief, and it makes his words and encouragement seem more real to the reader. Again, he writes and answers practical questions which have gone through the mind of every individual at least once about the seemingly unfair suffering that goes on in the world. Therefore, the book becomes more relatable to the reader, and it offers a very real idea of hope. He also uses and links valuable scriptures, facts from history, and excerpts from other authors in a way that properly demonstrates his points. Finally, this book was exceptionally edited, and I did not find any errors in it.
I think I would have preferred to know more about the experiences of the other family members while trying to find their own peace after the incident. For instance, I would have loved to know more about his wife. I did not find any other negative aspect while reading this book. Every other thing about this book seemed to have been spot on.
I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I think this book is a very valuable and educative book to everyone. It deserves its perfect rating, and I don't have any reason to remove any stars from my overall rating.
I would recommend this book to anyone struggling with grief, depression, or the death of a loved one. I would also recommend it to Christians who still struggle with understanding the place of evil, pain, and suffering in this world and why God allows it. --Review by Vivan Stones
